The visceral system relies on the interconnected synchronicity between the motions of all the organs and structures of the body. At optimal health, this harmonious relationship remains stable despite the body's endless varieties of motion. But when one organ cannot move in harmony with its viscera due to abnormal tone, adhesions or displacement, it works against the body's other organs and muscular, membranous, fascial and osseous structures. This disharmony creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body is forced to move around. And that chronic irritation, in turn, paves the way for postural distortion, neuromuscular dysfunction, and disease processes.
Neural Manipulation as developed by Barral and Croibier examines mechanical relationships between the cranium/spine hard frame to the dura and neural elements. It provides assessment and treatment approaches to address restrictions of the dural and neural components not commonly focused on with musculoskeletal symptoms. Neural Manipulation identifies and releases local nerve restrictions while at the same time examines the effect these local fixations have on the rest of the body, and by accessing this relationship, resolves the more comprehensive (global) dysfunctional patterns.
New Manual Articular Approach
New Manual Articular Approach (MAA) is a manual therapy modality that applies a comprehensive approach to the treatment of joints. It integrates all aspects of the joint including the nerve, artery, bone, capsule, and ligaments, as well as visceral and emotional connections. MAA delves into the joints like never before. It examines the nerves of each joint, along with the arteries, meniscus, ligaments, capsule attachments and folds. It incorporates soft tissue mobilization of the associated bones, while looking at direct and indirect relationships between the bones of the body. The relationship between the viscera and the joints is not widely understood. MAA shows how interconnected they are and that without addressing this visceral connection many joint issues may not fully resolve.
The craniosacral system (a physiological system like the cardiovascular and respiratory systems) provides the physical environment in which the brain and spinal cord develop and function. The light-touch technique works with natural and unique rhythms of our different body systems to pinpoint and correct source problems.
(SER) is a therapeutic process that expands on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma. Joint research efforts by Dr. John Upledger and biophysicist Dr. Zvi Karni led to the discovery that the body often retains (rather than dissipates) physical forces. This is often the result of an accident, injury, or emotional trauma. The dysfunctional area is isolated, creating what is called an "energy cyst". Although a reasonably healthy body can adapt to "energy cysts," extra energy is required to perform normal bodily functions. As time passes, the adaptive pattern of the body loses its effectiveness. Symptoms begin to appear and, over time, become more difficult to suppress. The SomatoEmotional Release process requires extreme sensitivity on the part of the therapist and a positive attitude and trust from the client/patient.
Muscle Energy Techniques
These 2 modules introduce you to the manual therapy concept of Muscle Energy Technique (MET), developed by Dr. Fred Mitchell, Sr. D.O. MET is a direct technique in which the therapist utilizes the muscle barrier concept to position the patient's body at their restrictive barriers. A gentle isometric contraction is used by the patient to normalize the joint dysfunction. MET will help reduce protective muscle spasm, fascial tension, pain, increase joint mobility, restore proper joint biomechanics and postural alignment. You will see immediate changes in your patient's pain and functional level. The goal of MET is to correct motion restrictions and improve the client's functional range of motion. Because of the gentleness and effectiveness of MET, it is appropriate with the following patient populations; neurological, amputees, sports injuries, auto accidents, pediatrics, geriatrics, respiratory and general orthopedic conditions. The focus of these courses is to teach techniques that are unique to MET regarding evaluation, prioritizing findings and treatment of joint stiffness.
Total Body Balancing
The majority of feedback from healthcare professionals is that they understand how to perform the individual techniques taught in manual therapy courses but they have a difficult time knowing which techniques to use, when to use them and how to integrate them during a treatment session. This module has been designed to answer these questions. In this seminar you will be taught a full body treatment routine called "Total Body Balancing". You will learn to take the information from your evaluation and create a specific treatment plan for your patient. Within this routine you will be shown how to integrate techniques for protective muscle spasm (Positional Release Therapy), joint stiffness (Muscle Energy Techniques), fascial scar tissue (Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy & Visceral Manipulation) & swelling (Lymphatic Drainage). Do not be concerned if you have not studied these treatment techniques as our main focus is to teach you the full body treatment routine and we will demonstrate and lecture how you can integrate the other techniques into your treatment session. This procedure is a very gentle process that covers the entire body and can be done in as little as 20 minutes. These techniques help to relax the muscles, fascia, joints and ligaments to improve circulation, nerve and energy flow, thus normalizing sympathetic and parasympathetic activity. You will see immediate changes in your patient's pain and functional level.
Although each person's journey is individual and unique, the basic, underlying principles in that journey are the same. These principles are explored conceptually, then physically and emotionally as participants use them to deepen their awareness of their own unique energy flow and learn how to develop it, through intention, felt sensation, expanding and reframing awareness, breath, sound, movement and journaling.
(NMT) is a scientific approach to muscular pain relief that works to balance the musculoskeletal and nervous systems to enhance the function of joints muscles and biomechanics. It examines six physiological factors that can create or intensify pain patterns: ischemia, trigger points, nerve entrapment/compression, postural distortions, nutrition and emotional well-being. From there it offers a program of recovery utilizing specific massage therapy, flexibility stretching and home care to eliminate the cause of most neuromuscular pain patterns.
(ZB) is a simple, yet powerful hands-on method of balancing body energy with body structure. Taught internationally since 1973, Zero Balancing integrates a Western anatomical view of structure with Eastern concepts of energy into a Zero Balancing protocol. Zero Balancing Core Program Segments I and II focuses on the theory and application of the ZB protocol and techniques used to evaluate and balance energy in the body.
(PA) is a body/mind/emotions/soul modality designed to help you discover and enhance your psycho-spiritual growth. It combines traditional accupressure with light touch techniques to open, strengthen and balance the body's energy systems- meridians and chakras.
Qigong supercharges the immune system as it oxygenates the cells of the body. It reduces stress, chronic pain, and brings about wellness and inner peace.
Focus on the multidimensional fascial system to locate and eliminate structural lesions throughout the body. This frees the body to better adjust itself by adapting to newly regulated systems.
The Feldenkrais Method® is a unique and sophisticated approach to human development, learning, and movement. Invented by Moshe Feldenkrais, an Israeli physicist and martial artist, the Method is internationally known for its ability to improve areas of human function such as posture, flexibility, and self image.
Lymph Drainage Therapy
A gentle technique that works through the body's lymphatic system to activate fluid circulation and stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. These actions can result in reductions in edemas, detoxification of the body, and regeneration of tissue.
Brain Therapy uses a slightly different paradigm by working extensively with the brain parenchyma rather than mainly on cranial bones and membranes. It trains practitioners to address very specific structures and physiology of the brain and spinal cord. The body often aligns itself around these precise structures and they are frequently unaddressed key/primary tissue restrictions.
Heart Centered Therapy (HCT) is a loving approach to emotional healing, holding profound insight into the "Psychology of the Human Heart" and human potential. HCT teaches how to master dialogue techniques that bring awareness to areas of deep spiritual-emotional disconnection and supports reintegration and wholeness through a gentle, respectful process. Personal issues and conflict come to re-solution through love, acceptance and transformation of the whole being.
These workshops are designed to teach participants the anatomy and physiology of the craniosacral system and its relationship to health and disease in people and animals. Class work is divided between lectures, demonstrations with loads of hands-on practice.
Integrative Intentions Comprehensive Therapy Program is a hands-on practical endeavor.
We are mindful and appreciative of all who have taught us and provide the historic background and current context in which we can do this work.
Fascial Integration offers complementary skills in postural analysis, physical assessment, problem solving and fascial manipulation, especially for tricky clients not responding to one's current methodology.
Body Alchemy is a transformational process of healing and recovery from trauma, abuse and post traumatic stress (PTSD) experiences. In this 3 day intensive workshop craniosacral therapists will learn specific skills to manage these intense states of body deregulation caused by a loss of trust and safety due to abuse, trauma and PTSD.
Students will learn how to develop their therapeutic presence with a client, how to restore the body of trust and apply specific skills to assist a client’s nervous system to regulate and repair from their history. The body alchemy process integrates CranioSacral Therapy with appropriate somatic therapies and the expressive arts. Students will learn to strengthen their own therapeutic and ethical boundaries and develop communication skills to explore a client’s past so that they can more fluidly guide a client through the body releases of past hurt, pain and fear. Utilizing the current theories of trauma they will also learn how to gently release the freeze/shock from the body and brain, while structurally and compassionately rebuilding resilience and trust. Using metaphor and storytelling that accesses deep body communication, students will discover ways to guide a client through the change making process so that they can find their own creative resources and reframe their traumatic experience to one of hopeful resilience integrating body, mind and spirit.
